(Queens, NY) – A Catholic church in Queens went up in flames just ahead of worshippers gathering for Easter Sunday service. It happened Saturday afternoon at the Saint Edmund Church of the Holy Trinity Parish in the Breezy Point section of the Rockaways. Luckily, there was no scheduled Saturday mass. A total of 138 fire and EMS workers from 33 units were on the scene battling the three-alarm fire. The church was founded back in 1937 and was set to host a worship service for Easter Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. and according to the church’s Facebook page, that service has been moved to the parish’s St. Thomas More church.
