(New York, NY) – Mayor Eric Adams is signing legislation to bring down more of those unsightly scaffolding sheds in the city. The Mayor signed legislation Thursday (April 17, 2025) that reduces the amount of time property owners can have the structures up, forcing them to complete building repairs in a timely manner.
The bills also call for penalties for those who leave sheds up too long, increased lighting, more frequent building inspections and more appealing shed designs.
The city has already taken down more than 300 long-standing sheds. Officials say the structures crowd sidewalks, darken streets, impact sight lines for businesses and pose public safety concerns.
