
(Albany, NY) – A bill is being introduced in Albany allowing for grocery stores across the state to sell wine. There is one condition: the wine must be produced in the Empire State. New York State Senator George Borrello says it will help boost local wineries and family farms, juicing up the state’s entire wine industry.

Liquor stores are opposing the legislation, saying that it will hurt them financially with the loss in revenue. As it stands now, New York is one of the 10 states unable to sell wine in grocery stores – a regulation dating back to the Prohibition Era.
