(New York, NY) — For years leaders in New York City have accused local towns of bussing their homeless to the Big Apple. Now New York City is reportedly looking to relocate some of its homeless population and migrants outside of the five boroughs.
The “New York Post” reports the city Department of Homeless Services has a signed a 250-thousand dollar contract with booking agent Alpha International Travel. It would allow the city to relocate some homeless in shelters to other areas of the country, along with migrants who want to leave the city.
A City Hall spokesperson says the contract will also help place newly arriving migrants outside of New York. Nearly 41-thousand migrants are currently living in the city’s shelter system.
