(Newark, NJ) — As hot weather approaches, New Jersey’s Governor is announcing a move to foster better cooperation between NJ Transit and Amtrak to help avoid last summer’s commuting nightmare.
Governor Phil Murphy says Amtrak has done major track repairs and upgraded overhead wires from Trenton to New York Penn Station in an effort to prevent stalled trains and power outages as we approach the dog days of summer. He also says Amtrak has agreed to take on a senior-level NJ Transit worker in its New York Penn Station dispatch center to prompt better communication between the transit agencies when there are problems.
Murphy says Amtrak has been hyper-focused on getting the work done now to avoid issues with upcoming FIFA games and concerts at the Meadowlands, adding he’s proud of the way the two transit agencies are working together
