(Bay Shore, NY) — A nine-year-old girl is recovering after she was attacked by a pit bull in Bay Shore Saturday morning. Neighbors on Lombardy Boulevard say they have been fearful of the pit bull for a a while. It’s not clear why the dog was off leash when it bit the young girl over and over again. Her father tried to get the dog off, but the pit bull only let go when it’s owner saw what was going on. The 9-year-old was rushed to the hospital. She will be okay, but will need cosmetic surgery to help heal the bite marks on her face.
The Town of Islip has issued a ticket to the dog’s owner. Suffolk County police say they are investigating the attack
In Columbus, Ohio a family is in mourning after a 7-month old dies after being attacked by a pit bull last week. The child’s mother, says she cannot believe their pet dog would so viciously attack the same girl she snuggled up with. Local Animal Control officers took away all of the family’s dogs pending a further investigation.
