(New York, NY) – The new Minecraft movie is dominating theater attendance, earning the top spot at the box office for the second weekend in a row. On Friday before the weekend, the action film starring Jack Black based off the Minecraft video game raked in another $20 million. During its last opening weekend, the movie already passed the $200 million benchmark. That previous record was held by Marvel’s “Captain America: Brave New World”, making it the top earning US film so far of the calendar year.
Moviegoers have sparked some controversy over chaotic screenings with crowds yelling and throwing popcorn. Several theaters, including one in Bergen County, have banned any unaccompanied minors from seeing the movie in response.
