(Queens, NY) – Officials on Roosevelt Island are putting the blame on tourists for issues with the tram but New York State disagrees. A smear campaign is pointing the finger at visiting tourists who want to ride the famed 59th Street Tramway over the east river. Former members of the Roosevelt Island Operation Corporation paid a public relations firm nearly $170 thousand to plant stories online claiming that visitors were to blame for any issues with the tram.
The New York State office of the inspector general released a report saying while some service issues could be pinned on overcrowding, there were signs of poor management. According to the report, since the four executives named are no longer working with the corporation, there’s no danger of continued abuse of state resources. A state ethics commission is also reviewing the report considering further action.
