(Washington, DC) — There’s always some controversy regarding changing the clocks twice a year. Lawmakers on Capitol Hill are now pushing to lock the clocks.
Senator Ted Cruz led a bipartisan hearing this week, looking into the effects of time change. The Texas Republican says it was meant to curb energy use, but studies show that’s not happening. A bill, dubbed the Sunshine Protection Act, would make daylight saving time the year-round standard.
Senator Cruz says when we lose an hour of sleep, it has a huge effect on our bodies, and studies have shown losing an hour of sleep leads to higher rates of heart attacks and strokes.
