(Islip, NY) – Locals in Long Island pushing back against plans for a marijuana dispensary. Concerned residents in Islip raising the alarm on what they are calling a gateway drug. The town board was supposed to have a vote on a proposed legal pot shop but decided to postpone the decision to June 15th. Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter has voiced her opposition to the plan as the town reconsiders a 2021 moratorium on regulated dispensaries, regardless of any potential tax revenue.
However, some did show up in support of a legal dispensary in town saying it’s a safe alternative to a black market which is already selling to kids. One undecided council member said it’s a quite “heavy decision” for the town.
