(Santo Domingo) — Former Mets and Yankees pitcher Octavio Dotel is among the dozens dead in the Tuesday Dominican Republic nightclub roof collapse. Dotel played with 13 teams after getting his start with the Mets in 1999. The Mets held a moment of silence for Dotel at last night’s game. Also, famous singer Rubby Perez who often performed for the Dominican community in Washington Heights is among the dead. A vigil was held outside the United Palace Theater in upper Manhattan last night for Perez.

The death toll has risen to at least 98 after the collapse at the Jet Set nightclub early Tuesday morning.  It’s not clear why the club, that has been popular for decades came tumbling down during a Rubby Perez concert. Rescue crews are searching through brick and metal for anyone who may still be alive.
