(Beijing, China) — Chinese companies that make plastic Christmas trees and other holiday decorations say they aren’t getting any orders from the U.S. as uncertainty swirls over President Trump’s massive tariffs. China provides nearly 90 percent of Christmas decorations to U.S. retailers. One-hundred-and-four-percent tariffs on Chinese goods went into effect at midnight. China wasted little time in announcing it would impose 84 percent tariffs on U.S. goods in response, up from the 34 percent previously announced.
China says it will take “resolute and effective measures” in response to the Trump tariffs. At a news conference today, a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry accused the U.S. of abusing tariffs “to pressure China,” and said China “will never accept this kind of bullying.”
