(New York, NY) — Ebike charging stations are coming to New York City sidewalks. The program was announced this week in hopes of preventing lithium-ion battery fires. It’s part of Mayor Adams’ “Charge Safe, Ride Safe” program.
The Department of Transportation says the hope is to move charging from inside city apartments to outdoors in safe FDNY-approved cabinets. The cabinets will be about 8-and-a-half-feet tall and four-feet wide. The program is not free and you have to apply for a cabinet, which has a 750-dollars filing fee.
