A fight to keep the WTC heath program humming

syndication-asbury-park-press-68

(New York, NY) — New York’s two senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand are calling on the Trump White House to keep all staffing for the World Trade Center Health Program in place. There are reports that some WTC program employees received notices Friday saying they could lose their jobs. The program provides health services to first responders and survivors of the 9-11 terror attacks who are sickened with 9-11 related illnesses.

Meanwhile, the head of the World Trade Center Health Program has his job back, following bipartisan pressure from members of New York’s congressional delegation. Long Island Republican congressman Andrew Garbarino says that Dr. John Howard was rehired last week, after he’d been terminated by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Junior. Garbarino was joined in the effort by Democrat Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and other members of Congress from around the region.
