(New York, NY) – The deal to buy the Chinese-owned social media app TikTok is in flux as an offer was rescinded following the tariffs announced by President Donald Trump. The popular video sharing app, owned by China’s ByteDance, faces a potential ban in the U.S. after Congress passed a law. The law prohibits the app, unless there is a deal to sell to an American buyer. Lawmakers in favor of the ban say it’s a matter of national security with China having unfettered access to millions of American’s devices and data. Vice President JD Vance has been given the responsibility of brokering a deal to see the app, at least in the states, to change hands. There was a deal months in the making which appeared China was willing and ready to accept. However, that changed following the announcement of new tariffs and Beijing pulled out of the deal. President Donald Trump signed an executive order to keep TikTok up and running for another 75 days as negotiations continue.
