(New York, NY) — New York City Mayor Eric Adams is now running as an independent as he tries to get re-elected.
Adams released a video Thursday morning (April 3, 2025), one day after a federal judge dismissed corruption charges against him, saying he is going to forgo the Democratic primary.
The mayor says the dismissal of the case dragged on too long, making it impossible for him to mount a primary campaign. The mayor went on to say he believes the city is better served by truly independent leadership. Adams is taking part in a mayoral forum at the National Action Network convention in Midtown, Manhattan.
Adams is behind in the polls that were taken prior to the federal charges being dismissed.
