
(New York, NY) – New York City’s crime rate is going down. The latest numbers show in the first three months of the year, the city experienced the lowest shooting incidents in recorded history and the second lowest number of murders in the same period. Through the first quarter, shootings were down 23 percent and murders were down 34 percent compared to the same time frame last year.
In the subway tunnels, crime dropped to the second-lowest level in 27 years, with major crime dropping 18 percent during the first quarter. There were zero murders in the transit system over the time period for the first time in seven years. Mayor Eric Adams says improving public safety is the main priority for his administration. Authorities giving a lot of credit to the NYPD’s precision policing model, focusing on areas with the highest concentration of major and violent crime.
