(New York, NY) — Mayor Adams has decided to opt out of the Democratic primary for mayor in June, and instead run as an Independent come November. He dropped a six minute video with the announcement online overnight. Adams say the bogus bribery case against him did not give him time to focus on the Democratic primary, so that is why he is skipping it and waiting till the general election in the Fall.
On Wednesday morning, a federal judge dismissed bribery charges against the mayor. The order from U.S. Judge Dale Ho ends the case against Adams, who was set to go on trial later this month. The 64-year-old plead guilty last year to wire fraud, conspiracy and bribery. The Trump Justice Department had told prosecutors to drop the case.
Adams will take part in a mayoral forum on Thursday at the National Action Network convention in Midtown, Manhattan.
