(New York, NY) — Stealing beehives is the new shoplifting. According to authorities, bee burglars are stealing hives at an alarming rate. It appears the bee population is in severe decline, due to pesticides and the destruction of many rural acres. Because of the lack of bees, which are great pollinators for crops, thieves are swooping in and stealing their hives. Officials say many hives are stolen at night, when farmers are sleeping. To try and catch the bee burglars, authorities are planting tracking devices inside the hives in hopes of making arrests.
