(New York, NY) — This morning a federal judge dismissed bribery charges against Mayor Eric Adams. The order from U.S. Judge Dale Ho ends the case against Adams, who was set to go on trial later this month. The 64-year-old plead guilty last year to wire fraud, conspiracy and bribery. The Trump Justice Department had told prosecutors to drop the case.
Mayor Adams’ personal attorney, Alex Spiro released a statement this morning, saying “The case against Eric Adams should never have been brought in the first place”.
In recent months the mayor had reportedly cozied up to President Trump, visiting him at Mar-A-Lago and showing up at the White House. Insiders have said Mayor Adams was waiting for the case to be dropped to begin his re-election campaign in earnest.
