(New York, NY) — The New York Yankees have been blasting out one home run after another since opening day last Thursday, and some fans say that’s only thanks to the team’s new “torpedo bats.” They were designed by an MIT physicist-turned coach. The bats are built for hitters who make contact closer to the label than the true barrel.
They proved to be huge for the Yankees offense over the first weekend of baseball against the Brewers. The Bronx Bombers hit nine homers in a single game.
Not every player is using the torpedo bats, but for those who did there was a marked improvement over last season. The Yankees are not the only team using the bats. The Twins and Orioles also say some of their hitters are trying out the torpedo bats.
