(New York, NY) – Across the country, protesters took to Tesla dealerships in protest of Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency. On Saturday, over 200 protests went down from coast to coast, in one of the most widespread rallies against the billionaire. Organizers called it a global day of action. In the months leading up to the demonstrations, protesters called for boycotts of the electric vehicle manufacturer by selling off their cars and stocks.
The protests are mostly against the cuts made by DOGE, but some harbor personal resentments towards Musk including for a gesture he made on the Inauguration stage, which has been interpreted as a Nazi salute. Tesla sales have slumped since Musk entered the political stage, but some market experts don’t think the trend is directly indicative of disapproval of the CEO. Tesla dealerships, cars and charging stations have been targeted with acts of arson and vandalism, including here in New York.
