Russia: President Putin holds Russian Security Council meeting
(Murmansk) — Russian leader Vladimir Putin says it would be a mistake to dismiss President Trump’s push to control Greenland. Putin said “It is a profound mistake to treat it as some preposterous talk by the new U.S. administration.” Putin says the U.S. has wanted Greenland “as far back as the 1860s” to advance its interests in the Arctic Circle. President Trump has repeatedly insisted that it’s an “absolute necessity” for the U.S. to gain control of the Danish territory, and Vice President JD Vance is set to visit today.
Vance and the second lady have scaled back their itinerary, reportedly in an effort to avoid meeting residents face-to-face, the vast majority of whom do not want to become part of the United States. They will now only visit a U.S. Space Force base located on the northwest coast.
