(Washington, DC) — President Trump says national security adviser Mike Waltz “has learned a lesson.” The Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg said he was included on a text chain on the encrypted messaging app Signal, that also appeared to include Vice President JD Vance, National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard and Secretary of State Marco Rubio that discussed plans to strike Houthi targets.
Trump went on to say the incident was “the only glitch in two months, and it turned out not to be a serious one.” In a post on X this morning, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said no “war plans” were discussed and no classified material was sent to the thread.
President Trump is reiterating his support for his intelligence officials. He called national security adviser Mike Waltz “a very good man” during an ambassadors meeting at the White House. Trump said they will look into the use of the encrypted messaging app Signal after the incident.
Meanwhile, Trump administration officials are testifying before a Senate committee on global threats. They include Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, FBI director Kash Patel and CIA Director John Ratcliffe. Virginia Democrat Mark Warner said the issue of the war plans leak “is not a one-off.”
