(Trenton, NJ)  — The southern New Jersey truck driver who once pulled off a huge upset to become a state senator is dropping out of the governor’s race. On Monday, Republican Ed Durr withdrew his name, leaving Bill Spadea, Jack Ciattarelli and state Senator Jon Bramnick in the Republican primary field. Durr then threw his support behind Spadea. Meanwhile, reports indicate President Trump met with both Ciattarelli and Spadea separately last weekend, with both candidates looking for his key endorsement.

Back in 2021, Durr, a truck driver beat long-time Senate President Steve Sweeney, a powerful South Jersey Democrat to win a seat in the State House.  Durr, who was driving drives big rigs at the time, spent just one-hundred-fifty-three-dollars on his campaign buying flyers, business cards and donuts for staff. He said he got into the race after being denied a concealed gun carry permit despite having a clean record.
