Entertainment: 94th Academy Awards – Roaming red carpet
(New York, NY) — It was a star-studded night in New York City as “Othello,” starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal in the timeless Shakespeare tragedy, debuted on Broadway Sunday night. The VIPs who walked the red carpet included, Jennifer Lopez, Samuel L. Jackson, Anna Wintour and Colman Domingo. Former President Joe Biden, and his wife Dr. Jill Biden, were also there.
Even before opening night, the show was doing big business at the box office, with many seats going for one-thousand-dollars. The show grossed two-point-eight-million dollars in one week this month, breaking the one-week record for any Broadway show. In addition, theatergoers are being asked to lock their phones away before the show starts.
Meantime, Variety said the show has “two great stars, but little flavor,” while the New York Times said the play ” embraces the action but misses the mystery.”
