(New York, NY) — For the first time in decades, St John’s fans are glued to their TVs during March Madness. The Redmen, who are seeded number two have made it to the second round after they clobbered an Omaha team in Rhode Island on Thursday night.  The Johnnies have made an incredible turnaround since last season with Coach Rick Pitino at the helm.

St. John’s put together a dominant second half on the way to an 83-53 win over Omaha in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Red Storm held a five-point lead at halftime and outscored the Mavericks 50-25 following the break. RJ Luis Jr. scored a team-high 22 points as St. John’s punched its ticket to the second round for the first time since 2015. The Red Storm will play 10-seed Arkansas in the second round on Saturday.

St. John’s coach Rick Pitino says his team did not have their best night after getting off to a sluggish start, but they were ahead at the final buzzer.
