(Santa Fe, NM)  —  Many pet lovers are still wondering how Gene Hackman’s dog died.  Officials say the dog was found deceased in a crate.  According to a necropsy report from New Mexico officials, the dog died from dehydration and starvation and was also partially mummified.  Hackman, along with his wife Betsy Arawaka, were also found dead in their Sante Fe home on February 26th.

Officials report Hackman died from heart disease, while Arakawa succumbed from hantavirus which is a rare infectious disease that starts with flu-like symptoms. Scientists say it’s spread by coming in contact with rodent droppings.
