NJ Politician Arrested on Gun Charges

syndication-the-fayetteville-observer-12

(Orange, NJ) – A city councilman for Orange Township, Kerry Coley Jr., is in some trouble after a tiff with a tow truck driver took a serious turn. According to police, Coley threatened the unnamed victim back in October. The driver was apparently taking in a car that belonged to a relative of Coley, which eventually led to Coley pulling a gun on the tow truck driver. The details of the charges have not been released, as the Essex County Prosecutors Office may bring this case to a grand jury.

Coley represents Orange’s East Ward on the city council. He was first elected to office in 2014, and is up for reelection in 2026. Before his foray into politics, he served in the Army and 20 years with the Orange Police Department. He also ran for mayor of Orange in 2016, but lost to incumbent Dwayne Warren – and was also accused of pulling up his opponents yard signs. He surrendered to the recent charges this Monday, and was released Tuesday after being held overnight.
