(Waterbury, CT) — Prosecutors say a Connecticut stepmom kept her son captive in their Waterbury home for 20 years, almost starving him to death. The unnamed victim is now 31-years-old, and is only able to tell his story because he started a fire in his room last month. That blaze brought out local firefighters, who rescued him from the room he had been held in against his will since he was 11 years old.  When first responders carted him out of the home in February, he weighed just 86 pounds at five-feet-nine-inches tall.

The victim’s stepmom, Kimberly Sullivan says her now deceased husband is responsible for all that happened to their son. Sullivan is facing a slew of charges, including inhumane treatment.
