(Los Angeles, CA) — California Governor Gavin Newsom has directed the Board of Parole Hearings to evaluate whether Erik and Lyle Menendez would pose a risk to public safety if they were released from prison. The announcement comes after Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said he does not support resentencing for the brothers, who shot their parents to death in their Beverly Hills home back in 1989.
Hochman wants the Menendez brothers to remain locked-up, until they “come clean” once and for all. He says he does not oppose the re-sentencing hearing, but he does oppose their release unless they admit their guilt and “come clean” about the murders. The brothers claim they were sexually abused by their father for years.
The Menendez Brothers’ resentencing hearing is currently still scheduled for March 20th and 21st.
