(New York, NY) — A plan that’s being unveiled to reimagine New York City’s Penn Station includes moving the iconic Madison Square Garden. The Grand Penn Community Alliance says it is formally submitting the comprehensive proposal to federal and state governments.
The proposal highlights plans to create soaring indoor spaces, open outdoor space, and restore Penn Station’s original architectural features.
The alliance says the only way to do it would be to relocate MSG, adding arena owners have said they would move the arena across Seventh Avenue, in the space formerly occupied by the Pennsylvania Hotel, if the right opportunity was presented. Advocates say with 600-thousand-commuters passing through Penn Station each day, the current hub is only built to handle 160-thousand people.
