(Newark, NJ) – Quick thinking helped avoid a disaster at Newark Liberty International Airport on Saturday morning. A FedEx cargo plane caught on fire shortly after taking off around 8 a.m. Officials say a bird strike caused the engine fire, which led to the crew turning the plane around for an emergency landing.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident. The plane was heading to Indianapolis originally. The airport did shut down operations, but only briefly. This comes as flying fears persist following two deadly crashes in January. Luckily nobody was injured in this latest debacle.
