(Washington, DC) — President Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky had a heated exchange of words while meeting at the White House. Trump, Zelensky and Vice President JD Vance argued over the Russia-Ukraine war. Trump told Zelensky he’s in no position to dictate policy. said y he’s gambling with World War Three. and called Zelensky disrespectful and added Putin only respects him as far as Presidents go.
President Zelensky left the White House after not signing a minerals deal that would also move forward a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war. Trump said Zelensky is welcome back when “he’s ready for peace.”
Zelensky said he wants a lasting peace in Ukraine and will need security guarantees in order to end the war with Russia. He also said the argument wasn’t good for either him or Trump, but added that he can’t change Ukrainian’s negative feelings towards Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Zelensky noted Putin’s breaking of previous ceasefires, and again reiterated the need for security guarantees from the United States.
The Ukrainian President reacted publicly on social media ,thanking the United States. He wrote, “Thank you America, thank you for your support, thank you for this visit.” He also thanked President Trump, Congress, and the American people, adding “Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that.”
