Severed Head Used for Alleged Threat in Mexico

syndication-arizona-republic-88

(Tijuana, Mexico) – Members of a drug cartel in Mexico allegedly used a grisly method to issue a recent threat. The target of that threat was Grupo Firme, a Grammy-winning regional band that is based in the Mexican state of Baja California. They specialize in Sinaloan music. The group was threatened in Tijuana with a severed head.

A Mexican newspaper says the group decided to cancel a scheduled performance for March 1 in Mazatlan. Apparently the issue first surfaced when a large banner was unfurled alongside a highway in Tijuana, on Tuesday morning. It threatened that members of Grupo Firme would be killed if they performed as planned. A severed head was discovered inside of a box placed alongside the banner.

Law enforcement authorities say it’s believed the message was sent by a drug cartel. Police in Mexico report there have been an increased number of threat made against performing artists, allegedly from cartel members.
