Bipartisan Effort to Fund WTC Health Program

(Washington, DC) — New York Senator Kirstin Gillibrand is leading a bipartisan, bicameral charge to fix the World Trade Center Health program and it’s enormous shortfall.

The New York Democrat was joined at a Wednesday (Feb. 26, 2025) afternoon news conference in Washington by Republican Representative Andrew Garbarino of Long Island and Brooklyn Democrat Dan Goldman. They say the program will be forced to say “no” to enrolling new 9-11 first responders and survivors unless they get the money to plug the hole.

Gillibrand says actuaries say it’ll take three-billion-dollars to adequately fund the program through its 2090 expiration date.  Their bill is called The 9/11 Responder and Survivor Health Funding Correction Act of 2025.
