(Marcy, NY) – Following the death of an inmate — caught on bodycam — nine corrections officers in upstate New York are facing serious charges. Robert Brooks was the inmate killed during what’s been described as a vicious attack — inside the walls of the Marcy Correctional Facility — in Oneida County.
Images and footage of the alleged attack were released by authorities weeks ago, when a special prosecutor was appointed to investigate the situation. Six of the corrections officers have been charged with murder while three others have been charged with manslaughter — specifically for not stopping the attack. Brooks died in December as a result of his injuries.
The bodycam footage shows corrections officers restraining, kicking, and beating Brooks — in addition to to other apparent violent actions. All of the officers accused had their bail set at $100,000 or less.
