(New York, NY) – Community members and fellow first responders are calling for changes to the FDNY’s response process after an EMS lieutenant was found dead on Monday. Pix 11 reports that the EMS lieutenant called 911 before he passed, during what was believed to be an asthma attack. FDNY responded to the scene and when the door was never answered, they marked the call for help as “unfounded”. He was found dead by his family later that evening.
The identity of the EMS worker has yet to be revealed as his cause of death is still under investigation. FDNY said in a statement that they are reviewing the incident and say there will likely be changes to their protocols. The dispatcher and call taker have been taken offline according to the fire department.
