(Toronto) – Amazingly, no one was killed and no major injuries have been reported — after a plane crash at Toronto’s Pearson Airport. The flight from Minneapolis to Toronto was a Delta flight operated by a regional carrier. Upon trying to land, the plane flipped over on its back and burst into flames. This came amid icy and snowy conditions, which have persisted in the Toronto area for days.
Pearson Airport CEO Deborah Flint praised the combined efforts of rescuer workers and first responders. She says they saved lives and acted with exceptional professionalism. In all, 18 passengers were hurt, but most walked off under their own power. Some were hospitalized. The flight carried 80 people in total, 76 passengers and four crew members.
Now, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada will lead the investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board is also sending a team of US investigators to assist.
