(Long Island, NY) — The National Grid workers’ strike is looming on Long Island. Negotiations continued into the early morning as the utility provider and the IBEW Local 1049 union were unable to come to terms on a new contract.
The strike deadline, that was midnight February 13th, was extended earlier on the morning of February 14th.
The workers, who are responsible for natural gas services and power plant operations across Long Island, are lobbying for better wages, health care, and retirement benefits. The negotiations are being mediated in Melville, New York.
