(Boston, MA) – As President Trump continues to try and shrink the federal workforce, one specific effort remains on hold. A judge in Boston extended his block on Trump’s buyout plan for federal employees Monday. The move impacts more than two million federal employees, as a temporary restraining order has been issued.
Trump’s plan offers federal workers the opportunity to keep getting paid through September, if they choose to resign. Over 60,000 federal workers have reportedly accepted the offer. This is all in line with Trump’s push for additional scrutiny over government spending — and the creation of DOGE — as led by Elon Musk.
The Boston judge originally paused the buyout plan last week. Several labor units have challenged its legality. Some have argued the workers face little choice but to accept the buyout offer — or face termination.
