(Mount Pleasant, NY) — A Westchester County Park remains closed after a dozen dead Canada geese were discovered over the weekend. Mount Pleasant lawmakers say the geese were found near a pond in Carroll Park in Thornwood. They closed the park out of an abundance of caution, as the State Department of Environmental Conservation conducts tests to see if the geese died from the avian flu. Local leaders are worried that if the geese are sick, their illness could transfer to other animals like dogs.
Police say they’re using a laser device to try to stop any other geese from landing in the pond until the town has answers. Officials say anyone who finds a dead goose on public or town property should call the Conservation Department.
