(Washington, DC) — President Trump is banning transgender athletes from women’s sports. He signed an executive order Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2025). Trump said, “From now on women’s sports will be only for women.” The order directs the Department of Justice and other federal agencies to interpret Title IX rules as banning transgender women and girls from participating in female sports. The order also requires the immediate enforcement of these rules.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said it ends “the disgusting betrayal of women and girls by the previous administration.”
The order, titled “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” will also require “single-sex locker rooms.” The administration reportedly expects sports organizations like the NCAA to adjust their rules in order to comply.
