Fighting for Affordable Child Care

syndication-news-journal-19

(Hackensack, NJ) — New Jersey Congressman Josh Gottheimer is laying out plans to make childcare more affordable. The Democrat is calling to immediately expand the child tax credit to offer 350 dollars every month to families with children ages six to 17.

That legislation includes a so-called “Baby Bonus” to give an additional two-thousand-dollars to families who just had a child.

Gottheimer says New Jersey lost hundreds of childcare centers during the coronavirus pandemic so he’s re-introducing what he calls the LITTLE Act, which will create the first tax credit for first-time childcare centers. The legislation would also double the tax credit families receive to help pay for childcare.

Gottheimer also plans to write a letter to Congress and the House Appropriations Committee urging them to avoid cutting childcare-related funds.
