(Washington, D.C.) –President Trump will officially impose tariffs for goods from Mexico, China, and Canada on Tuesday. The president signed off on them Saturday afternoon. America will pay 25-percent tariffs on items from Canada and Mexico, and a ten percent tariff on items from China. Trump says it’s a response to illegal immigration and fentanyl coming into America. He says the three countries “owe us a lot of money” and he is sure they’re going to pay.

Canada’s ambassador to the U.S. says her country will respond to tariffs with their own on American products.  Kirsten Hillman says Canada will place a 25-percent tariff on U.S. goods. She says she is worried that a trade war could erode the close trade ties between the Canada and the United States, and even jeopardize their future economic relationship all together.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul is warning that prices will go up across the Empire State as a result of tariffs between the U.S. and Canada. Hochul says the tariffs could cost New York families on average 13-to-14-hundred-dollars this year.  New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand says most farmers in New York export a lot of their food, so when you put a tariff up, it means they won’t be able to export the goods they are growing at all.
