(New York, NY) – President Donald Trump announced in a post on social media that the military carried out airstrikes at his order Saturday morning in Somalia. In a post on Truth Social that was also shared on X, or Twitter, Trump said that the attacks targeted senior ISIS leaders.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says an initial evaluation shows multiple operatives were killed. Trump stated that no civilians were harmed and Hegseth backed that statement. An official from the Somali president’s office said the move was welcomed by the government. Reuters reports that the official claims “Somalia cannot be a safe haven for terrorists”.
