(Washington, D.C.) –First responders do not expect to find any survivors, after an American Airlines jet collided with an Army Black Hawk helicopter right near Reagan National Airport Wednesday night The plane from Wichita, Kansas was carry 64 including the crew. The Tomahawk helicopter had three onboard. Overnight hundreds of firefighters and police officers searched for any sign of life in the Potomac River. They only found lifeless bodies.

Air traffic controllers at Reagan National Airport saw the crash right before their eyes. They alerted the authorities. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says this kind of nightmare is unacceptable. He says it’s too early to speculate on what may have led to the collision.

President Trump says the crash between an American Airlines jet and military helicopter looks like it should have been prevented. In a post on Truth Social last night, Trump said, “The airplane was on a perfect and routine line of approach to the airport.” He questioned why the Army Black Hawk helicopter didn’t see the plane, adding it was a clear night and “the lights on the plane were blazing.” Trump also asked why the control tower didn’t tell the helicopter what to do instead of asking if they saw the plane. In a separate statement issued by the White House last night Trump thanked first responders and said he is monitoring the situation.
