(New York, NY) — Pharmacy chain CVS is launching a phone app at some Manhattan stores, so customers can unlock those annoying shop-lift proof cases on their own. CVS, along with other big chain pharmacies have locked up merchandise in cabinets to prevent theft. Shoppers have to ring a doorbell that sits above the product to alert a worker to unlock the case. Items like shampoo, toothpaste and razors have been locked up for a few years.
Some CVS customers can now use the new app at their stores on Lexington and Amsterdam avenues and Bleecker Street. They will just have point the phone at the case to unlock it. Customers must be logged into the CVS Health app and connect to the store’s Wi-Fi. The app is expected to eventually expand to other stores.
