Obscured License Plate Crackdown

syndication-louisville-15

(New York, NY) — New York City agencies are teaming up to crack down on obscured license plates as congestion pricing remains in effect.  NYPD Transportation Deputy Chief Thomas Alps says drivers are using simple tactics to alter the plates to avoid being captured by E-ZPass scanners, including covering a letter, using plastic covers, or even putting fake paper plates onto their cars.

MTA President of Bridges and Tunnels Cathy Sheridan says she’s yet to see an uptick in the number of obscured or tampered plates since congestion pricing went into effect three weeks ago. Officials say 92-percent of people are paying the tolls, but interagency teams will continue to crack down.

Special NYPD patrols have set up checkpoints this week at various bridges and tunnels.
