(New York, NY) — New Yorkers felt the earth move Monday (Jan 27, 2025) morning. Governor Kathy Hochul says some tremors are being reported out of New York after an earthquake off the coast of Maine. The three-point-nine magnitude earthquake happened about eight miles from York Harbor, Maine, which is around 65 miles north of Boston. The earthquake was also felt in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire.
Hochul says even though New Yorkers say they felt tremors they haven’t reported any damage or direct impact. No injuries have been reported in Maine.
It comes just days after a two-point-four magnitude earthquake was felt in North Jersey on Friday afternoon. The USGS says that quake was centered just north of Paramus and hundreds of people took to social media to say they felt some shaking.
